The Museum of Arts & Sciences offers events and exhibits at 352 S. Nova Road, Daytona Beach.
The fourth installment of the annual Beaux Arts Group of Central Florida exhibit, “A Symphony of Color” is on display to Nov. 28.
The Beaux Arts Group of Central Florida was founded in 1962 by the students of the late Lillian “Lu” Belmont of New York City. The group is comprised of 50 professional artists, working in all mediums, who place a strong emphasis on experimental creative approaches brought to quality design conception and techniques.
As part of August MOAS After Hours: In Partnership with The Locals Mix from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, guests will have a chance to meet several of the artists as well as listen to a presentation of the exhibit by curator Peggy Banks.
Florida Vistas Book Club will meet virtually to discuss “Shadow Country” by Peter Matthiessen from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19.
Charting the Celestial Landscape will be on display until Oct. 10.

Film acting class
DarkSide Theatre is hosting a film acting class for adults from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Thursday at 600 S. Yonge St., Suite 7A, Ormond Beach.
Learn the basics and advanced techniques of both on-camera and stage acting with professional coaching and directing.
Classes are designed for actors of all experience levels. Class size is limited to ensure quality instruction.
Reservations are required in advance. Participants must be 21 or older. The cost is $15 per class.

Southeast Museum of Photography
Conversations On Conflict Photography will be on display Aug. 24 to Dec. 4 in the Southeast Museum of Photography at Daytona State College, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach.
Conversations on Conflict Photography features work by 12 award-winning photographers whose groundbreaking images have often defined global conflicts. Through these images, this show examines the stories behind the photos and the ways the photographers approached them.
Also on display until Sept. 3 is (Re)Framing Florida, which examines the rich and varied views of the Sunshine State. Spanning across disciplines and time periods, these permanent collection highlights, including images captured by a variety of renowned photographers as well as a selection of vintage photographs from as early as 1885, showcase the breadth of the land and the people who inhabit it.
Admission is free. Masks are strongly encouraged. Disposable masks are available for free at the front desk. Front-line museum staff will continue to wear masks to ensure the safety of visitors.
Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Arts on Douglas will host Endless Summer: A Group Exhibit Aug. 7-28 at 123 Douglas St., New Smyrna Beach.

Atlantic Center for the Arts
Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach hosts classes, meetings and exhibits.
University of Central Florida Flying Horse Editions: The Art of Collaboration will be on display until Oct. 30 in the Pabst Visitor Center on the main campus, 1414 Art Center Ave.
Flying Horse Editions is a collaborative research studio for visual artists at UCF.
BIG INK is hosting a weekend of monumental woodblock printing at ACA Nov. 6-7. Applications are due by Aug. 30. Artists interested in carving a woodblock of at least 24 by 36 inches may participate.
It’s free to apply; accepted applicants pay $300.

Nature Sketch Club will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at ACA main campus, 1414 Art Center Avenue, New Smyrna Beach.
Artist Bethany Bennett, Master of Fine Arts, leads participants through sketch techniques and wellness exercises. Participants need a sketch pad and pencil.
ACA is now accepting applications for the Artists-in-Residence Program. Spend three weeks developing your work with the personal support and mentorship of internationally renowned artists in the visual arts, literature, music composition, and choreography. Participation is limited to up to eight people for each discipline.
Due to Covid-19 and the immense stress it has put on artists, ACA will be offering full scholarships to accepted artists who qualify. Deadline is Sept. 19.

Hub on Canal
The August exhibit opening in the Founders Gallery of The Hub on Canal at 132 Canal St. in New Smyrna Beach will be “Art Stars of Volusia: Volusia County High School Art Exhibit.”
The exhibit features two- and three-dimensional artwork plus photography created by the Advanced Art Program students from six Volusia County high schools.
The exhibit will be on display to Aug. 29.
The continuing exhibit in the Fine Art Photography Gallery is “Through The Lens: Landscapes, Seascapes and Wildlife,” photography by Dave Bowers and Lori Vetter Bowers. Mr. and Ms. Bowers embrace their fundamental darkroom roots, but have grown to employ modern “digital darkroom” technology. Exhibit will be on display to Aug. 29.
Art in the Form of Film with Paul Marino will meet from 5:45 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20. “The Big Lebowski” (1998) will be shown. The cult film was directed by the Coen Brothers. Mr. Marino will introduce the film, raise questions to ponder and host a post-viewing discussion. The fee is $7, which includes a glass of wine or bottle of water.
Silk Painting two-day workshop with Carol Baker will meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, and 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 22.
Ms. Baker will lead students through an eight-step process to create a painted silk scarf for their wardrobes. Students will learn how to paint a 15 by 60 inch silk scarf on day one and complete the scarf on day two. The fee is $100 for members or $110 for non-members (plus $20 supplies fee paid to instructor on day of workshop). Limited to six students.
The Hub on Canal needs volunteers for reception, special events, outreach programs, promotional events and building maintenance.

Hand Art Center
“Oscar Bluemner: My Finest Design” will be on display from Aug. 19 to Dec. 3 at the Stetson University Hand Art Center, 139 E. Michigan Ave., DeLand,
The exhibit will explore Oscar Bluemner’s influence, study and lasting effect of architecture as an artist.
The photography exhibit “(un)Peopled: A Sense of Place” will be on display from Aug. 19 to Oct. 16.

Gateway Center for the Arts
Pottery classes for adults will meet from noon to 2 p.m. each Wednesday at Gateway Center for the Arts at 880 N. U.S. 17/92, DeBary.
Classes are for beginner and intermediate students. Each session is $50. Masks are required and class sizes are limited.

Museum of Art-DeLand
Museum of Art-DeLand will host a free Family Fun Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 21.
Free admission, but Family Fun Saturday has paused hands-on art activities for children due to Covid-19 safety measures. Free art activity packets will instead be available to take home from 600 N. Woodland Blvd. while supplies last. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Museum of Art-DeLand exhibit opening
James V. Freeman has built a substantial following for his oil paintings, which are a luminous and sculpturally realistic combination of landscape and still-life created largely from memory and dreams.
His work will be on display from Aug. 27 to Nov. 29 at 600 N. Woodland Blvd.
“Adam Straus: Out of Paradise” will be displayed until Sept. 12 at 100 N. Woodland Blvd.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 and free to children younger than 12, and Volusia County Schools and Stetson University students.
