The Department of Education’s Place of work for Civil Rights has opened an investigation into racial affinity teams at a New York City general public center college on allegations of racial discrimination.

Mom and dad Defending Education and learning (PDE) filed a federal civil rights grievance in December alleging that the Lessen Manhattan Local community Faculty was holding racially segregated affinity teams in violation of the Civil Legal rights Act of 1964 and the Equivalent Defense Clause of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Structure.

The Business office for Civil Legal rights (OCR) sent a letter Wednesday to Mom and dad Defending Education and learning President Nicole Neily saying it was investigating the allegation.

PDE filed its grievance in December subsequent a New York Put up report that claimed the college had planned to produce the affinity groups that would individual college students in accordance to their race.

According to a November 2021 email to family members, attained by PDE and provided to Fox News Electronic, Principal Shanna Douglas announced that 7th and 8th graders would be signing up for affinity teams to discover the dilemma, “How do our racial identities influence our encounters?”

PDE on Thursday cheered the OCR’s investigation.
